Practical Tips

Visa Application

Most visitors to mainland China need a tourist (L) visa. Applying is simple when you know the steps:

  • Apply 1–2 months before your planned arrival date
  • Prepare a valid passport, application form and one photo
  • Provide flight bookings and hotel reservations
  • Check if your country is eligible for visa-free transit or visa-free entry
  • We can issue a formal invitation letter to support your application

When to Go

Best (and Worst & Cheapest) Times to Visit China

  • Best overall: April–May and September–October — mild weather and clear skies nationwide.
  • Cheapest: December–February (except Spring Festival) and July–August shoulder periods offer lower prices.
  • Avoid crowds: Chinese national holidays (Spring Festival & Golden Week in early October) bring huge domestic travel.
  • Regional tips: Northern China is best in spring/autumn; Yunnan & Guizhou are pleasant nearly year-round.
